Brief on AMC Exam in Australia
Basically, what AMC does is that it takes the test and certain credibility in the medical field of Australia.
The AMC Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) MCQ Examination is a computer-administered fully integrated multi-choice question examination delivered in one sitting that lasts 3 and a half hours.
This is the only body that looks after the medical exams at the national level. It is required for every medical student to take an exam in order to score eligibility for studying in Australia.
This examination itself consists of 150 “A-type MCQs”. Out of 5 options, you must select the one correct response. 120 of the questions are “live” questions, which mean they count towards your score. The remaining 30 don’t count towards your final score. To Play it safe, you need to give it your best shot for all 150 questions.
You are expected to complete all 150 items and must complete the 120 scored items. Failure to complete all 120 scored items in the examination may lead to insufficient information for a reliable determination of your ability and therefore a result on the AMC adaptive scale.
4 STEPS TO APPLY FOR AMC EXAMINATION
In order to be able to sit for the AMC you must first establish what is called a portfolio.
And to do that, you should create a registration with the AMC website.
Then follow the steps below:
1. VERIFY YOUR PRIMARY QUALIFICATION
Check that your primary qualification (Medical Diploma) is awarded by an institution recognized by the AMC. The AMC recognised medical schools listed with the World Directory Of Medical Schools
2. CONFIRM YOUR IDENTITY WITH ECFMG
You must create an EPIC account and confirm your identity with ECFMG (in the United States). There is a need to indicate that you plan to apply to the AMC when establishing an account. Your EPIC ID would be gotten in 2-3 days.
3. COMPLETE YOUR PORTFOLIO APPLICATION
To complete the portfolio application, you need an EPIC ID. And as such you need to establish AMC PORTFOLIO for processing by AMC. Your AMC candidate number will be confirmed by email within 3-5 working days.
4. VERIFY YOUR STATUS ON AMC PORTAL
You then upload your qualifications to your EPIC account for processing. In this process, you must request that a EPIC report be sent to the AMC. After which the AMC will be notified to update the verification status on the AMC qualifications portal.
You can, in fact, start preparing for this whenever you like as there is no actual work experience requirement to sit the AMC Part 1 Examination.
But, you will not be able to sit the exam without a verified medical degree. So you can start studying for it in medical school but won’t be able to sit it till after you graduate.
This process of applying for the AMC exam in total will cost you $500 AUD to register with the AMC and about $205 USD for EPIC (more if you are wanting more than one qualification verified).
